Walking is good for the Heart

  • Practise walking forwards and backwards, moving your ‘heart’ into the space that currently has your partners ‘heart’ in it. This applies equally to lady and gent.

Honourable Intentions

  • State of Intention
  • Gents – get your partner to step just before you do by moving the chest before your feet.
  • Practice going forwards, backwards and side.
  • When you master that try getting your partner to step around you without moving your feet (e.g. survival ocho at 5)

Under Starters Orders

  • Use state of intention to control the woman’s feet.
  • Get her to extend her foot without transferring
  • Get her to transfer without collecting

All together now

  • Moving the chest and shoulders together and independently.
  • You all ready move the shoulders independently in survival ocho (or the lady would never walk up the side of you)
  • Make sure when moving the chest the shoulders are related. OPEN and CLOSE the options available to the woman using the shoulders. Shiny stick useful, or if you don’t have one any normal stick or broom handle!

Calling a halt to proceedings

  • Practice halting the woman without her collecting (taking ‘Under Starters Orders’ further)
  • On an Ocho halt your movement so that she doesn’t collect (leaves one leg extended)
  • Then try it on a side step (harder!)

Look Mum, ‘no hands’!

  • Try leading without holding on at all.
  • Can be used for;
    • Walking
    • Ochos
    • Giro’s
To check that you moving together and signalling correctly.

Use the force Luke

  • Get the woman to close her eyes and ‘feel’ the lead.
  • Her arms are connected to your shoulders and by maintaining frame when your chest moves, your shoulders move, her arms move, her shoulders move etc…
  • Everything should just work. If not then the guy isn’t signalling clearly enough (not necessarily BIG enough by the way!)

You’re only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!

    • Use the balloon (very expensive and exclusive training aid) to help practice. The balloon helps to magnify and emphasise all your movements so can cleary show where the lead is (and isn't!)
    • You can use the balloon on all the above exercises, but it is particularly useful in the following:
      • Walking is good for the heart
      • Under Starters Orders
      • All Together Now
      • Calling a Halt to Proceedings
